Bagshot Beats Rye

Another race of interest was the "A" division of the griffins' handicap which proved to be the downfall of the raging hot favourite, Rye, who by the merit of his recent performance and low weight, was made a great public fancy and carried nearly half the money. Mr, Henchman was, nevertheless, hot too disappointed as his other entry Bagshot exonerated the stable by winning the race by three lengths from Cherrylight and Flyinglight.

Port Bradda took the lead from the start but was never allowed to get away too far while Rye was kept well back. Soon after Loongfei Gate, Rye shot through the field like a bolt of lightning and in a furlong had passed not only the field but Port Bradda, who was four lengths ahead, as well. He kept the position until the Monument when the feld headed by Bagshot and Flyinglight crept up and reduced his lead. He was easily passed the moment the straight was entered. Cherrylight came with a very late rush to pass Flying light and take second place three lengths behind the winner, Bagshot, while Rye finished a poor fourth.

G. P. Gram took riding honours yesterday by bringing in three winners while C. B, Moller rode two winners for his father's stable. The Unplaced: 667, 238, 679, 151, 681, 616 317, 457, 606, 676, 293, 644, 414, 268.

The Fledgling won the second race from Goldenray and The New China. The Fledgling and Dolce Farniente went out in front the moment the {ape was lighted and kept together until the Monument where Dolce Farniente dropped back. The Fledgling drew away by two lengths as soon as he entered the straight and looked a winner all over. Goldenray came with a sudden unexpected rush and almost overtook The Fledglin but failed by half a length.

Gram scored his first win of the day on Busted Straight on whom he won the third race, beating Mefistofele by two lengths. Tungsten-light and Cottonlight galloped ahead of the field until the last quarter where the whole feld was tightly bunched. It—was only Busted Straight's spurt in the last fifty yards that decided the issue. Cot. Slow fulfilled third place three quarter lengths away.

The "B" class of the griffins' handicap fell to Brave Raider who just managed to stave of Little Joe's determined challenge to win by the close verdict of a head while Milkylight with a number of other ponies had a terrific battle before he could annex third place. Un Un Un gave Gram his second winning ride. He won the seventh race from Corps Cavalry and The Frigate.
