Mr. Wallace to Meet Cotton Leaders Final Export Subsidy Plans To Be Announced Soon

Washington, July 8.

Mr. Henry A. Wallace, Secretary of Agriculture, will confer with leaders of the cotton trade, probably next week, prior to announcing final plans to be made effective in tonnection, with the Export Subsidy.

The purpose of the meetings, it is learned, will be to obtain the reaction of the trade to plans now ten-natively drawn up. The principal point to be decided is whether the subsidy shall be flexible or at a flat rate.

Initial plans called for a flat rate, probably of two cents per pound, but later a proposal for a flexible rate was seriously considered.

Thus far, it has been decided to inaugurate the Subsidy Programme on August l and to confine it to the new crop, but later it may also be applied to loan cotton.—Reuter.
