London, Oct. 27.
With rumours of peace negotiations making the rounds since the fall of Canton, it is now definitely teamed that tentative movements have already been made by influential Japanese quarters to induce the British Government to offer their services for the restoration of peace in the Far East, It is understood that one or two prominent Beitish business men are supporting the movement, but. that nothing of an offlelal nature has yet taken place, It is suggested, however, that Great Britain might inquire of both China und Japan, whether they now wanted peace, and Invite them to a conter-fence merely on that basis, making no mention of terms on one side, oF stipulations on the other.
Japanese circles here affirm that. the Japanese generals are as amcious a the civilians to end the war, int view of the enormous losses already caused to Japan in men, money and materials. "Hence it is confidently be-Veved that Japan would accept the terms which China could accept.
