Portugal's View Stated

Lisbon, Oct. 28.

Despite reports from abroad, opinion in well-informed circles is that the Government will not discuss the question of the Possible return to Germany of her colonies with Mr, Oswald Pirow, Minister of Defence of the Union of South Africa.

These circles hold that the German claims do not concern Portugal, whose territorial possessions in Africa were not acquired from Germany, or any other country, but discovered by Portuguese centuries ago.

Portugal's. Prime Minister, Dr, Antonio Oliviera do Salazar, is also taking Herr Hitler at his word when he says that Germany is not interested in colonial possessions not belonging to her before the War.

What may emerge from the talks between Mr. Pirow and Dr. de Salazar, it ig considered, is an under standing that Portugal, through her colonies, would render to South Africa any possible assistance in the event of South Africa being attacked by a foreign Power—Reuter, German Colonial Claim Stated
