Vienna, Nov. 3.
Members of the Hungarian delegation attending the German-italian Arbitration Conference on the Czech-Hungarian frontier dispute, declare that the occupation, by Hungary. of five zones in Slovakia and Ruthenia has been decided, The first zone—Great Schutt Island—includes the city of Komarno, in the extreme south of Slovakia, and part of its surroundings.
An award, signed by Italy and Germany at 7.30 last night, grants to Hungary all Czechoslovak territory populated by an indisputable Hungarian majority. Thus, about 1,000,- 600 Hungarians and considerable territory pass under Hungarian sover-eighty.
Of the five cities round which controversy arose, Hungary gets the Ruthenian capital Uzhorod and Ruthenia's second largest town of Mukacevo, as well as the big Slovak industrial town of Kosice. Bratislava and Nitra remain in the hands of the Slovaks.
Herr von Ribbentrop Cool As a result of the award, communications between Slovakia and Ruthenia are almost completely cut.
The decision is regarded as a diplomatic success for Hungary and Italy, and as a severe blow to the Slovaks.
After the meeting, which opened at Belvedere Palace yesterday, Count Galeaazo Ciano, the Italian Foreign Minister, was ell smiles, while Herr Joachim von Ribbentrop, the German Foreign Minister, was distinctly cool when he bade farewell to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, M. Kalman de Kanya.
The Czechoslovaks will begin their evacuation on November 5, and will complete it five days later.—Reuter.
