Tragedy in Concession Early in the Morning 'A Chinese constable of the Frenc: Municipal Police was fatally wound-about 930 am. on May 6 when preventing a gang of Kidnappers from carrying off a merchant famed Zao Tehing-ming. Zao was leaving his house in Pere Froe, and was about to enter his ear when an armed robber opened the fron: door of the vehicle, and got in beside the chauffeur. Two others of the gang, with pistols-drawn, who cums behind Zao, forced him to get into the car at the point of their pistols.
Chinese police constable 613, Heu King-zal, attached to Avenu Joffre police station, who was on" duty nearby, hearing the alarm rushed to the scene. The kidnappers. immediately opened fire on him, and on exchange of shots followed, in. the course of which the policeman fired Several times at the members of the gang, who took to flight. He himself, however, was mortally wounded by 'a bullet which entered his chest, and. died before other policemen summoned to his assistance could arrive, Zao, it is understood, had received during the last few months several threatening letters, and he would certainly have been carried off by the members of the gang but for the courageous action of the police cone stable. The larier, a native at Hopel, was 29 years of age, and entered the French Municipal Police in March, 1981. 2
