Closing Date for Local Tennis Entries

JULY — L. Carson May Bring-Off

Another "Grand Slam"

Entries for all local men's tennis championships, including the Roper Cup International Doubles, will close by next Saturday, July 29. Players intending to participate are asked to send in their applications not later than the above-mentioned date.

Of the men's championships, the junior singles will start first,' play beginning on Saturday, August 5. The senior singles and the international doubles will follow, starting on Saturday, August 12, and finally the senior doubles will get under way on the following Saturday.

Lewis Carson failed to complete a "grand slam" last year because of indisposition of his doubles partner, C. C. Squires who was suddenly taken ill after the completion of the first round. In the singles final, Carson took three sets to defeat Humberto Collaco.

This season, the local champion has started by winning the mixed doubles in the company of Mrs. M. Reader Harris, less than two waegs ago. He is practically certain to retain the singles title and will probably again team up with Squires in the doubles.

The Women's singles will the last of the competitions to begin, the entries for this event closing on September 2, and play will start on September 9.
