To the Editor of the "NostH-Cuma Day News"
Sir,—A few words in reply to Mr. Marc T: Greene's letter in today's issue, Please, MR. GREENE, do not consider this reply as an argument, but only as a slight but important reminder. -If in the United States, lives a n: an by the name of Harry Browden, does it mean that the Unites States have gone tovarich? Apparently not.
It has always been the pride of democratic-thinking people that they view questions in a fair light, and do not allow themselves to judge flocks by the black sheep. Isn't this a straying away from that policy?
I take great haste in disavowing any connection with those people at the Astor House, And I am quite certain this is the heartfelt opinion of the majority of us. I dread the day the Japanese will find the time ripe to let loose their "representa tives," "committees," and "White houses." To think that some day those "committees" will be strong enough to force us against our will, as they do up North, makes me live in a nightmare. Many times, reading a report on the doiñgs of one of these committees, I feel so disgusted that to the amazement of those around me, I suddenly stand up and tear the newspaper. God, are those people still so blind, so naive, that they believe the Japanese are our friends? If so, then let them go to Harbin, let them see the Japanese-occupied. North! Or maybe it's one way out of unemployment. But what a way—what a shameful, degrading way! Imagine, 350 disciples of Judas ell in one country, in one town, and in one building.
But if their teacher sold, were his companions—the rest of the apostles—blamed too? If there ere 350 such people, is it necessary that we are to be blamed too?
I wish I had some convincing proof "than this letter that we do not consider those people even some of us. They are not ours. We have nothing in common with them, We refuse any connection with them.
I consider all such "committees" etc, siding with an enemy of Russia as traitors. They do not love Russia with their hearts, but with their tongues. I would rather have the lowest Russian rule Russia than have the most respectable, spotlessly-clean non-Russian take his place, And apart from love of Russia, loyalty to Russia, let them remember just one thing—decency—and with a remote, nebulous hope that they will realize what fools they've made of themselves, I hasten to add that I was Nor ONE -OF THEM, Shanghai, Nov. 8.
