Will To Obey

There must be the will to obey, otherwise the prayer is a mockery. There must be a united heart, the whole heart given to God, that alone he can accept. If we pray for light on our path and guidance for our feet, but in our hearts have made reservation, if there are some things we will not be willing to do, or to give up,—then let us not be surprised if God does not answer our prayers. If we pray "Teach me thy way!" we must be prepared to walk in his way, and not want to cone tinue in our own, but get God's blessing upon it; that is to follow the example of Balaam, and it is never a success. And yet how often that is just what we want to do. We want to walk in our own way and call it God's God's way is seldom the eas est way, but it is the only safe wa: It is the only way that leads to peace and joy, and rest dt the end. And so whatever it entails, let us resolve to take it.

"Teach me thy way O Lord....I will walk in thy truth. Unite my heart to fear thy name."
