First Endure, Then Pity, Then

You see we've none of us been thinking so much about clothes lately, not many places to wear them. And then we've had no magazines for almost two months, and a terrible lot can happen in the style world during that time. You always think the new styles a bit fantastic at the first of every season, but they never looked so absolutely cock-eyed to me as they did this October.

But, and here comes the postscript. I picked up the same magazines the next night and before I knew it I was seeing myself in one of those draped bosom, unexpectedly up-in-front evening gowns. Then Pat came in to borrow a book to show her tailor how to make three costumes out of her old fur coat and last year's swagger tweed. Now we only have to attend a few exclusive openings and we'll be crying to possess the very clothes we jeered at a few days since. Isn't style ridiculous? And aren't we too?

Thanks a million for the fashions. They are not only good comics but they have bucked up our morale a lot. Do it again some time. Sooner or later a good bit of mail matter percolates through to us and we all hope to hold the fort and stay on here. I find my first war very exciting. The only drawback is that they won't let one call it a war at all. It seems too bad to have all this powder burnt up over a mere emergency.

Too bad you didn't get out in time for it.
