As Others See

A sens of articles entitled "I come from gland" has been appearing in a Continental ening newspaper. They are accompanied by photographs of anxious Englishmen having bulletproof linings fitted to their bowler hats, as though this was a usual feature of modern English life, while vendors of bullet-proof waistcoats are said to be doing good business, particularly with politicians and their wives." To refute the claim that England is an Al nation," the author of the articles cites the advertisements for patent medicines which appear n the English Press and announces that "every Snglish breakfast table bears a series of bottles with all kinds of medicines and powders" in order to counter-act bad cooking. And so the series gezs on, with English cartoons reproduced with captions distorted to reverse their meaning.—"The Times" correspondent.
