Night Attack x Hankow, Dec. 6.
Mr. Chi Kuo-chen, chairman of the Peace Maintenance Commission here, narrowly missed assassination early this morning when he was attacked by an unidentified assailant while asleep in his home in the former British Concession, now known as S.A.D. 3. Mrs. Chi was also wounded.
Taking advantage of the pitch darkness, caused by a stoppage of electricity brought about by a lack of coal the assailant penetrated into the Chi family bedroom at about 2 o'clock this morning. He was described by Mr. Chi as being masked.
The attacked couple called for help as they heard the intruder, who pounced on them with a dagger. Mr. Chi suffered a cash, four centimetres in length and five centimetres deep below his right ear, while his wife was slashed across the cheek by the assailant who fled. Surgeons said Mr. and Mrs. Chi's injuries woul¢ heal in two weeks—Domei.
