London, Nov. 1.
It is authoritatively understood that the British delegation will devote its efforts to finding a "formula" for mediation between China and Japan.
Political circles here doubt the success of these efforts as China will only accept honourable peace, and Japan is expected to reject any such terms. ' Italy is expected to support Japan's views.
The problem of protection of foreign interests in China will also be discussed while the American delegation is expected to raise the problem of the protection of territories neighbouring China and Japan. Great Britain is ready to go as far as the United States, as Mr. Eden declared in the House of Commons. Politicians here are anxious to know if the Americans will submit any concrete proposals.
It is understood Mr. Eden will remain in Brussels for a few days only, after which his place will be taking by Mr. Malcolm MacDonald, Secretary for the Dominions.—Havas.
