said the Formosans, (Japanese subjects) who were living in Amoy before the Japanese occupied it were badly treated by the Chinese there. So the people of Amoy feared that after the Japanese occupation these Formosans, under Japanese protection, would take revenge. On the contrary, however, the Japanese authorities prevented unruly Formosans from returning to Amoy, and some who were in the city and tried to make trouble were severely punished. Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum is henceforward to be known as the State Mental Hospital, a piece of sentinental idiocy which it would be hard to equal, as it is safe to say that the inmates, who are there for life, will probably know nothing and would care less what it is called. In addition, hard labour, penal servitude and the ticket of leave system are to be abolished. At this rate it will soon pay far better to be a criminal. I beg pardon, a problem mental case, than to remain poor but honest.
