The popularity of the Duke of Kent is growing. The cheerful smile with which he performs his numerous public duties is becoming almost as well-known as his eldest brother's. Little actions in his private life, too, reflect his genial disposition.
My tailor tells me of an incident that occurred soon after the Duke's return from' holiday. Two young employees of an eminent firm of Savile Row tailors have just started on their own. They had personally fitted members of the Royal Family, as well as many leading figures of the "nobility and gentry", and they must have wondered if any of those they had served would patronize the new firm.
One of their first callers was the Duke of Kent, who walked in with a cheery "Hello, you two," and placed an excellent order. Competition is keen in Savile Row, as elsewhere, but the tailoring fraternity think well of the Duke for giving encouragement to those enterprising beginners.
