To the Editor of the <"Norri-Curwa Darcy News"

Sm—May we ask the courtesy of your columns to warn new-comers to Shanghai against taking their dogs to Mokanshan or Kuling? In both these resorts dogs contract a tick-borne disease which is very difficult fof treatment. Should dogs be taken either resort every precaution should be taken to prevent the attack of ticks, To those who must remain in Shanghai may we suggest—

Sm—I have been watching your columns with some interest with regard to the unmentioned heroic deed performed by a Briton.

Two Chinese girls Jumped off the Government Ferry on. Thursday night, July 8, just off Tungkou. This unnamed Briton jumped off the ferry and saved one of the girls, who unfortunately was dead.

Tue night was very dark and the Whangpoo current very strong, but although the ferry was crowded and had the usu! amount of crew no one Tam wondering why the ferry ear tries no searchlight and adequate saving apparatus, Keex Onseaven, Shanghai, July 12.

Smj—With great interest I read to-day in your paper the remarks of Sraoy, concerning the unfortunate question of, income tax, and more so of the measures undertaken by local Chinese Police in order to force Rus sian emigrants to pay the tax, Really there exists now a state very near to panic among the Russians of Shang-hal, and many of my friends as well as myself are hoping sincerely that this drastic action of the Police will bbe stopped, as soon as the news published by your columns will reach the eyes of the proper authorities of Nanking Government.
