British Survivors Aboard

Oslo, Oct, 24.

The City of Flint was carrying survivors of the torpedoed British steamer Stonegate when it was captured by the German warship Emden because it was alleged to be carrying contraband for an English port, it was revealed here today.

The City of Flint was halted by the German warship 24 hours after having picked up the crew of 38 Britons from the Stonegate which was sunk in the northern Atlantic by a German U-boat.

The Emden's officers declared that the City of Flint's cargo was contraband and placed a prize crew aboard the American vessel. They then ordered the American vessel to proceed to the Norwegian port of Tromsoe. At this point they placed the British crew of the Stonegate in lifeboats, sending them to Bergen. The German prize crew later proceeded to the Russian port of Murmansk.—United Press,
