Submarine Victim Thanks Aerial Rescuers

Schofield (right) skipper of the torpedoed British freighter Kensington Court, shown expressing his gratitude to the two Royal Air Force pilots who rescued him and his crew of 33 in flying boats after their ship had been sunk off the English coast.

The pilot of the Atlantic patrol aircraft says: "An enemy submarine wes sighted some distance away. It dived, and several heavy bombs were dropped on it. At first it was thought that there had been direct hit, Dark Objects appeared in the water after the attack, and air bubbles rose to the surface. A second bombing attack was made as near to the same position as possible. We circled over the area for some time, but nothing further was observed."
