Herr Hitler was represented semi-official French dispatches last night as sounding out German opinion to determine whether the German people are willing to support smashing offensive on the Western Front which might cost many Ger. man lives According to official French circles. this was the chief purpose of Herr Hitler's weekend meeting with high German officials.
Der Fuehrer, it was said, is attempting to learn whether the German populace favours a hard offend sive or merely defensive operations while the German Navy and Air Force attempt to carry out a counter-blockade against the Allies. rench quarters said if Herr Hitler decides to open a full force attack against the British and French, he probably would follow three lines of assault, Germany could attempt to blockade gland by the use of planes and marines; the Reich could launch terrific' artillery bombardment against the French Maginot Line to blast a breach through which German troops could invade France, and thirdly, Germany could be expected to exert moral pressure on neutral European nations to compel them to cease trade relations with the Allies.
Germany would depend in part on Italo-Russian diplomatic support in attempting to achieve this point, it is believed.—United Press.
