Shansi Operations

Nanking, Nov, 17.

Japanese forces in Shansi are pushing southward in three columns, according to Chinese reports. The main body is proceeding along the highway from Taiyuaniu towards Lingfeng, the new seat of the provincial government; the zight wing is attacking Fengyang, while the left wing is reported advancing from Hoshun towards Yushai.—Reuter, opel Advance Halted Peiping, Nov. 17.

The Japanese advance southward from Tamingfu, in southern Hosci, appears to have been halted to deal with the large Chinese forces which sought some days ago to cut their communications, Japanese official reports mention the troops of four Chinese infantry and one cavalry divisions and one infantry brigade, mostly members of the 29th Army, as active in these operations.

The Japanese claim to have scattered the Chinese with heavy losses, and to be now engaged in clearing up operations north of Tamingfu. where the 37 foreigners are all reported safe,—Reuter.
