Shanghai Traders Want Swift Move

British Government — Urged- to Retaliate — Tokyo Restrictions — London, Dec: 20

The decisions of the Committee of British businessmen, who conferred with Sir Archibald Kerr, British Ambassador to China, and Vice-Admiral Sir Percy Noble, Commander-in-Chief of the British Asiatic Fleet, in Sha hai last week-end, are revealed today by the diplomatic correspondent of "The Times" on the basis of a private report received in London.

The Committee, says the correspondent, unanimously agreed that. a "policy of laissez-faire, passive resistance or ce-operation with the Japanese," would bring destruction to British interests as its only result.

They advocated, the correspondent adds, a retaliatory action.

They, themselves, touched on a denunciation of the trade agreement, he declares, but whatever the Government intended to do, they declared, must be done quickly.
