Manila, Jan. 15.
The All-Japan basketball team humbled La Salle College, Filipino national - champions, in a hard fought game 28 to 22 tonight to complete an eight game schedule against local net squads with seven victories, and only one defeat La Salle led the Japanese 5 to 3 at the end of the first quarter, but the Japanese evened the count in the second quarter which ended 11 to 1l. The Japanese offensive gained momentum in the third quarter when they advanced into the commanding lead of 21 to 14, La Salle's shooting was erratic in the third quarter, which cost the Filipinos the game. In the final quarter they staged a rally to bring the final score up to 28 to 22, but the let-down in the third quarter could not be overcome.
The Filipinos came within one point of regaining the lead five minutes before the end of the final quarter when the score stood 23 to 22 in favour of Japan. The Japanese, however, scored five points, one on a foul, in the last five minutes of play.
