Crew Walk Ashore When Bell Boy Hit by Engineer Honolulu, Sept. 11.
The Dollar liner President Hoover, recent victim of Chinese bombs off Woosung, was delayed there three hours to-day before sailing for San Francisco when the crew walked out in sympathy with one of the ship's bell boys.
'The ship first was delayed' as police sought to serve a warrant on the chief engineer, F. W. Wilkinson, who had been charged by the bell boy, H. Wilson, with having hit him over the head with a bottle because of his failure to respond to the service bell promptly.
Captain Yardley, however, refused to permit anyone but a United States marshal to serve the warrant on the chief engineer, whereupon the crew walked off the ship in a sympathy strike with the bell boy. Later, however, the crew returned to the Hoover and the ship sailed after the captain promised to adjust the dispute in San Francisco—United Press.
