London, Oct. 2.
An appeal for contributions for the relief of Chinese sufferers has been issued by the China Association, the conference of British Missionary societies and the British Red Cross. If appears in all the newspapers to-
The signatories, who include some of the most influential people in Great Britain, "base their appeal upon the broad human ground that the Sino-Japanese conflict is occasioning terrible suffering of all forms to untold numbers of Chinese."
The appeal anticipates that Shanghai will have to provide, in the near future, for half a million destitutes and that Tientsin, Peiping, Hankow, Canton and many other centres will be faced with similar problems, it also emphasizes that the resources of British hospitals in China have been strained to the utmost despite the heroic efforts of hospital workers, Money and material contributed in Britain will be sent to China and be administered by an organization of which the British Ambassador, Sir Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen, is the President, and the Governor of Hongkong the Vice-President.
