THINGS EASE UP FOR FIRE 'BRIGADE

Fewer. Calls and Ambulance Demands Made The Brigade Watchtowers reported 18 fires, mostly in the Northern and Kiangwan areas, on October 1.

A quiet day was experienced by the "fire-fighting "forces, only one special call being received to 322-4-6 N. Soochow Road where two drying stages collapsed, injuring three Chinese.

Ambulance calls also decreased, numbering only 22, as the result of which 22 persons were conveyed.to hospital. Of these cases, two were street accidents, one caused by the collapse of the drying stages noted under the special call, the remainder being sick persons suffering from dysentery, cholera, gastritis, ètc., from which it would appear that these troubles continue to be fairly prevalent amongst the Chinese population.
