FAREWELL TRIBUTE TO CAPT. MAUND

H.M. Consul-General, Mr. Herbert Phillips, and the colonels of the three British regiments now in Shanghai—Col, J. E. Hume, Col. D. M. Barchard, and Col. R. M. Rodwell, of the Loyals. the Royal Welch Fusiliers, and the Royal Ulster Rifles respectively—were the official guests at the monthly luncheon of the Zero Club held yesterday in the Shanghai Club. There was a good attendance of members and guests, with Brig.-Gen. E. B. Macnaghten, the chairman of the club, presiding.

After the loyal toast, General maghten proposed the health of official guests. He had had the privilege of travelling out from Home in the same ship as Mr. Phillips, he said, and on board he and the consul-general and Mr. Tony George, who had travelled part of the way on the same vessel, had been dubbed "The Three Musketeers," If he had been asked to choose which of the three were the most lovable Athos, he wailld have said Mr. Phillips.

He briefly outlined Mr. Phillips' Yang and distinguished career in China, and concluded by expressing the welcome of the club to the newly arrived but long experienced guard-den of local British interests.
