It was at this juncture that four Chinese pedestrians, all men, slumped to the pavement with bullet wounds. They had been hit in the cross-fire between the gunman and the police. Later, they were rushed to Paulun Hospital in a Fire Brigade ambulance and it was found that two had diea. A third had been seriously wounded by a cartridge which penetrated one of his kidneys, while the fourth escaped with a flesh wound in one leg. A rickshaw puller was slightly injured in a fall as he scurried away from the scene.
