Japanese Attack Repulsed

Troops in Shansi Forced To Retreat After Brief

Advance; Cities Bombed Chungking, Dec. 8.

Japanese forces, which commenced an attack against Chinese positions in the Chuntiaoshan mountains on December 3, have been driven back to their original positions, according to the latest Chinese field dispatches from Shansi.

It is reported that Japanese forces at Hsiahsien stormed the Chinese troops guarding the mountain passes east of Wenhsi, under cover of heavy artillery and aerial bombardment.

After four days of fighting the Chinese forces are said to have launched a counter-attack, resulting in the withdrawal of Japanese troops te their original positions at Hsiahsien.

The Chinese field dispatches claim that the Japanese lost "over 2,000 men in the engagement."—Reuter.
