Release of s. Nantucket Chief Is Demanded Washington, Teb. 2.
The State Department announced to-day that a demarche had been sent to the Nationalist Government in Spain for the release of the American tanker Nantucket Chief which was seized by Nationalist warships on January 17 and is being held in Majorca.
The State Department added that Gen. Francisco Franco had given assurances that the vessel would be released as soon as the cargo petrol has been unloaded. The incident will be considered closed as soon as the ship is released.
No consideration is being taken of the fact the petroleum belonging to the Republican Government was seized nor that the vessel was stopped outside Spanish territorial waters—
