Shansi Successes

Taiyuan, Oct. 20.

Pingshan in Hopei near Shihchiachwang, was recaptured by a Chinese detachment on Oct. 17, a midnight report received here last night stated. Another Chinese column reoccupied Chuyang, about 25 miles west of Tinghsien on the Peiping-Hankow Railway. The two Chinese units are now pushing toward Wantu on the Pinghan line to cut off Japanese communication near Paoting and to relieve the Japanese pressure exerted upon Niangtsekwan, the eastern gateway of Shansi on the Chengtai Railway.

A third Chinese detachment recaptured Fangsih on the highway between Yenmenkwan and Pinghsinkwan on the inner loop of the Great Wall in northern Shansi, while a fourth Chinese flying column, after occupying Kwangling on the Shansi-Charhar border, is now advancing toward Weihsien in eastern Charhar.—Central News.
