Foot and Mouth Disease in West Germany

Berlin, Nov. 4.

The German nation was informed to-day of the serious nature of the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease in western Germany where, despite every effort to localize the outbreak, it has spread insidiously until upwards of 2000 farms have had parts of their cattle stock destroyed by it. Germany may be compelled to import large additional quantities of butter. It appears the epidemic found its way into Europe from North Africa with the tran: Sport of infected animals to Ma! seilles in May, 1937. It moved northwards, rapidly spreading over France and into Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and western Germany.—"Trans-Ocean.
