Vienna, Feb. 25.
The independence of Austria was emphatically reaffirmed by Dr. Kurt von Schuschnigg, the Austrian Chancellor, in his eagerly-awaited speech in the Parliament building yesterday.
Dr. Schuschnigg said the Government regarded it as a first and unquestionable duty to maintain intact with all its strength the freedom and independence of the Fatherland.
The German-Austrian wanted to serve the German people as a good German, he declared, and, as a loyal Austrian, to ce-operate in the common destiny of all Germans, but within Austria's own frontier.
The new Government, the Chancellor proceeded, aimed, without party ties, at combining all political tendencies under an authoritative head.
