GATHERING AT RAILS OF S'HAI TRACK

Prospects for Saturday's Races Are Timed

By "Cmno"

There was a big gathering of Owners and other interested parties at the rails of ihe Shanghai race track yesterday morning from daylight on to 8 o'clock, watching the ponies doing their training work. "Many of the ponies that will be seen out racing on Saturday at the Shanghai Paper Hunt race meeting were amongst them, some doing gallops that point to their being winners.

The gallops done by ponies that should start on Saturday, included 3/4 mile by Sky Raider ridden by J. Sparke in 33.1, 1072, 1404. Some thought it good but I preferred a similar distance gallop done by Mischief with Sir Charles. - They completed the distance im 1373, last quarter 324.

Sammy did his 1% mile in 3.024, last quarter 344. He did not run too well last Saturday. Don Augustin, with Don Pedro, covered the 1% mile in 303, finishing well with a last quarter in 313. The Frigate (KB) with Grayling (EC.) went a nice training gallop of one mile in 2182, last quarter 314, Duke of Kent Looks Well Duke of Kent and Eureka Excellent did their mile together in 2134, lest quarter 313, whilst style at the finish was not too good, the gallop "was not a bad one and must give the former some prospects of being in the picture at the finish of Saturday's big race.

Stolzenck pit up as good a gallop as I saw done during the morning when covering the 1% mile in 2.51. last quarter 31.2, going very strongly at the' finish.

Honeymoon Gift with J. B. Lok in the saddle went an attractive gallop of one mile in 2.13.2 last quarter 31.1. The same rider was out on Mefistofele, taking him 1% mile in 2.28.4, last quarter 33.3. Gold Vase, looking well and ready to race on Saturday, cantered one mile in 2.20, doing the last quarter in 29.3. Some amongst -the onlookers doubted my time for the quarter, but I think it was correct.
