Quick Attack

The Loyals jumped into the attack in their usual winning way. The return of Bryn was a decided help. Although the two flanks were comparatively weak, the team still had enough to keep the play in the German territory. Siemmsen acquitted himself capably in his new role as a full-back, saving his side from trouble many times. In the other end, the Loyal defence had not yet been seriously tested, the Germans making only occasional raids.

Nevertheless, before the game was 15 minutes old, the civilians had hung up the opening goal as a result of one of those spasmodic attacks. Wetzell made the play. The German leader picked up Essen's clearance and sent a nice pass up the field. Soenksen streaked down and crossed into the centre just before the ball rolled out of touch. Lemmser followed up and was unmarked. The latter fumbled in his first shot but quickly recovered and fired a low drive past Rose to earn the early lead.

In the 25th minute the Loyals scored following a free hit against Siemmsen who was penalized for "sticking." Roades handed the ball to Byrn. The latter flicked a high shot which glanced off Schoemann's glove and flew into the net. Shortly afterwards, Cole nearly tallied a leader as the Germah goalie brought of a scintillating save to keep the deadlock until half-time.
