In spite of all difficulties, the past year set a record for contributions by members to the charitable funds of the Anzac Society of Shanghai and the gratifying total of $2,439.67 was handed cut for the relief of distressed. The annual meeting of the Society was held yesterday at the offices of the Australian Trade Commissioner, 12 The Bund, Mr. V. G. Bowden, retiring president, being in the chair. Mr. Bowden remarked thnt the meeting was being held extremely late, the usual time at which the meeting took place being in September. This was partly due to the fact that a large number of committee members were absent from Shanghai, and also to the fact that the secretary's files were in Hongkew, jand had therefore been unobtainable, The activities of the Society, Mr. Bowden continued, were naturally [cut short by the hostilities, He was pleased to be able to report that the distress caused by the hostilities had not hit the Society very heavily so far, "For many of us, however," Mr, Bowden said, "bad times lie ahead,"
The annual report, previously circulated to members, stated that the year under review had been an active one for the Society, which held [several successful social functions, land collected and disbursed sibstantial sums in charitable assistance, The Hallowe'en Dunce last October, the Recital and Dance in February, fand the Coronation Dance were all well supported, and produced between them a very welcome addition to the Society's funds,
