Japanese Bombed

Hankow. Apr. 5 Chinese aviation headquarters announced today that several squadrons of Chinese aeroplanes were sent this morning at 8 o'clock to south-east Shantung province, east of the Tientsin-Pukow Railway. The mission of the planes was to bomb Japanese reinforcements on their way from Cbuhsien towards Lingyi. When the Chinese aircraft circled above Eh: hsien, they sighted a large body of Japanese troops marching on the lincheng highway towards a direc-on south-west of Chuhsien. The Chinese planes, the announcement stated, heavily bombed the Japanese troops as well as raking them with machine-gun fire. They then returned to their base.—Reute He pointed out that armaments had been supplied to Japan as well as to China from a number of countries.

The Japanese protest was more strange, the Foreign Commissar concluded, in view of the fact that the Japanese were still detaining a Soviet mail plane and several ships, and had failed to complete the pa ment for the Chinese Eastern Rai Yen Exchange Rate Tokyo, Apr. 5.

A formal agreement for maintaining the yen exchange rate at is 2d was signed between Japanese and foreign exchange banks yesterday. The agreement provides also that fluctuations in yen exchange henceforth be expressed in s instead of pence—Domei.
