Situation Shansi Control Still with Chinese Hankow, Apr. 3.
The importance of the decision of the recent Kuomintang Congress to create a Kuomintang youth group was emplysized. by General Chen Chen, Minister of the Political Affai Department of General Chiang Kai Shek's headquarters, in an interview with the press yesterday. The! action, he said, was designed to organize and train Chinese youth further to strengthen Chinese resistance.
General Chen asserted that the status of the Communist Party as not discussed by the Congress the matter was fully dealt with at the third plenary session of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang following the liquidation of the revolution. At that time the Chinese Communist Party issued a statement announcing their decision to support the Three People's Principles, the Kuomintang, the National Government and General Chiang Kai-shek in their resistance against the Japanese.
Referring to the military situation, General Chen declared that although the Japanese controlled the main communication lines in Shansi province, the major portion of Shansi territory w still in the hands of Chinese troops. The Japanese attempt to clear the Tientsin-Pukow Railway of Chinese troops, he said, had failed so far. Even if they succeeded, he added, the Shansi situation would be repeated in Shantung.—Reuter.
