In the presence of relatives and a number of intimate friends, funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Chapel of the International Funeral Directors on Kiaochow Road for the late Mr. John Galloway Wallace. The Rev. M Hardman, of the Free Christian Church, conducted the service.
The deceased came to China in 1900 and after spending several years in the interior came to Shanghai in 1918, where he has resided since. Well known to the local community as "Jack," he gave a great deal of his time during 1927-8-9 in making brighter the welfare of the British Troops in the Gospel Mission Huts previously located at Foochow Road, Vu Yuen Road and Great Western Road. Although 63 years of age he answered the call last August and joined the Shanghai Volunteer Corps. During the past two years he has been an ardent worker for the Salvation Army, who deeply feel his passing. Following some months of failing health he died last Saturday at the Country Hospital. He is survived by his wife Mrs. L M. Wallace, daughter, Mrs. E. Rayment, sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gills (Scotland) and brother, George G. Wallace (Scotland). Of kindly nature his absence will be keenly felt among his many friends. The coffin, upon which rested a beautiful spray of lilies and white sweet peas from "Mother," was carried to the grave by Messrs, F. E. Parry, T. E. Longden, H. F. M. Pol, F. Wolnizer, R. H.
