Funds to Paris Small Community Collects Imposing Amount

Notwithstanding their small number, Czechoslovakian nationals living in Shanghai have once again displayed their loyalty towards their stricken fatherland, by forwarding 26,000 francs to the Czechoslovakian Red Cross in Paris. The committee in Hongkong has also sent 10,000 francs. The collected funds are to help soldiers, members of the Czechoslovakian Army which has been formed in Great Britain and France, The Czechoslovakian Red Cross, which is affiliated with the French Red Cross under the patronage of many prominent persons including M. E. Henriot, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies. is doing its bit towards easing the lot of those soldiers who are wounded battle.

In Shanghai, the funds were collected among members of the Czechoslovak Circle. which is the centre of those nationals in Shanghai, the nearest Consulate being in Bombay. The amount collected is all the more imposing as no public appeal has been made, the Czech community considering that so many other appeals have already been made that it would be imposing on Shanghai's willingness to give as to fall back on the city's well-known generosity.

Many Czechs formerly living in Shanghai, have left this city in order to place themselves at the disposal of their Army in Great Britain and France, and the few families remaining here meet regularly twice a week at the Czechoslovak Cercle, Rue Bourgeat, to give cash contributions which the lamas expect to obtain during the Lunar New Year period annually. It is stated that lamas from all other big lamaseries flocked to the biggest monasteries to pray.
