London, Jan. 14.
The French Governments fall resulted in an atmosphere of suppressed excitement at the opening of the London foreign exchange market this morning.
After uncertainty, banks and brokers dealt in francs, opening at 15400 to the £ (as against 153.00 overnight) but later went io 150.25 on short covering induced by fears of restrictions being put on foreign exchange dealings.
Paris not dealing in foreign exchange, the demand for francs is concentrated on London, hence the brisk rally though the market is very nervous, as reflected in continued offerings of forward francs at discounts. The prevailing discounts are Frs. 5.5 for one month and Frs. 8 for three months.—Reuter.
