London Market Nervousness

London, Jan, 17.

With France still without a Government, considerable nervousness continued to be apparent in the London foreign exchange market.

Shortly after the market opened, small offerings of francs from Holland and Switzerland caused the rate to fall to 18262, compared with Saturday's closing figure of 148.50, but intervention by ne British Control succeeded in bringing the rate back to 15050, which loter closed at 147.75 owing to the shortness of spot francs and bear covering, The extent of the confused outlook was reflected in the market for forward francs, which appeared to be neglected, so that rates showed only slight movement and closed at 6% and Frs. 914, discount for one and three months respectively, compared with Frs, 6 and Frs. 9 discount on Saturday.—Reuter.
