Barcelona, Jan, 18.
The War Office admitted to-day that a violent Nationalist counteroffensive designed to recapture Teruel had succeeded in occupying several strategic positions on the northern outskirts of the near Celabas.
An incessant, daylong barrage from Nationalist artillery, the War Office said, had resulted in slight Republican losses, but Teruel itself. was not in danger.
It was claimed that five Nationalist planes, including two Italian Fiats, had been shot down behind the Republican lines, and that the defending forces themselves had lost only two machines.
According io reports here, the Republicans captured three hills in in a minor advance on the Guadalajara front.—United Press,
