Dictators Inspecting Defences

Herr Hitler in Saar; Il Duce at Tun

Paris, May 16.

Both Signor Benito Mussolini and Chancellor Adolf Hitler were within a few miles of the French frontier throughout the day yesterday as they continued their inspection of their respective frontier fortifications.

Chancellor Hitler was in the Saar sector where he was accompanied by General Staff officers in an inspection of the Siegfried Line.

Signor Mussolini visited the Turin sector defences while the new Italian airfield at Caselle was being inaugurated, presumably as a base of any possible Italian operations against the French Alpine fortifications.
