Powell in Drawing Room

For the last four years, Willim Powell has been seen in drawng room, semi-serious coretiesras detective or man-about-town, Ant I hope to high heaven they keep hin there, Even the thought of Powsll as a "heavy" again, or riding hope on the range, sets my teeth on dis.

Olivia de Havilland's correct back, ground is the domestic costume type. I have liked her in everything se has done except when in modern clothes in modern films—"Call It a Day" and "It's Love I'm After? Hyr type of beauty and histrionics just F not go with this hysterical age, Now take Carole Lombard (with Clark's permission). She would be completely wrong away from sophisticated, well-dressed comedy, In some of her earlier films Carole attempted serious acting in unbecoming clothes. I still.don't know how her career survived. But thank heaven it did, to find natural express sion in films like "My Man Godfrey," "Nothing Sacred," "True Confession" and "Food for Scandal,"

The right background for Luise Rainer is visible clearly to the naked eye. The 24-year-old Viennese star is a character actress first and foremost—to wit, Anna Held in "The Great Ziegfeld" and the Chinese O-Lan in "The Good Earth" Why she was ever put into a New York tenement building as the wife of a taxi driver in "Big City" is something I will never quite understand.

Errol Flynn's best pictures are painted on a romantic, dashing canvas. He was fine in "Captain Blood," not quite so good in "The Charge of the Light Brigade," where he was required to do more acting and less picturesque stuff—only fair in "The Green Light," in which he was mis-Cast as a doctor—terrible in "An-Other Dawn"—excellent as the bold adventurer in "The Prince and the Pauper"—not bad in The Perfect Specimen,"
