The friends and former pupils of Mother St, Austin, who died in England just before the New Year, are advised that a Requiem Mass will be said for the repose of her soul on Thursday, February 10, at 8 am. in the Convent Chapel, 37 Rue Montauban, to which they are all invited.
Mother St. Austin joined the order of the Helpers of the Holy Souls 40 years ago and spent 33 of those years in Shanghai. She will be remembered by many ex-pupils of St. Joseph's Institution who she helped to prepare for the Cambridge Examinations. Her book "52 years n Missionary" a life of Mother St. Dominic, the first Superior of her order in China and the foundress of Sen-mou Yeu, Siccawei, was read with great interest by her former pupils.
For some years before her departure for England she had been in charge of the Providence Orphanage and her foresight in preparing for the ever changing needs of the girls under her care was always evident. She tried her utmost against mai difficulties and with the limited funds at her disposal to fit these girls for useful work in Shanghai and was quick to pick out the bright ones and to give them the opportunities they might have had if they had been more fortunately situated.
Those who would like to send donations to charity in memory of Mother St. Austin may send them to the Providence Orphanage, 37 Rue Montauban for the children she worked for and in whom she took so keen an interest,
