Sydney, Mar. 15.
Five firms, now established in Australia are expected immediately to expand Australian cotton textile production to such an extent that an additional 1,500 operatives will be employed in the industry.
The General Secretary of the Associated Chambers of Manuf2ctures, Mr. L. L. Withall, making this statement, said that Australia shortly should have at least 1,000 looms in-stelled to make cotton canvas and duck. Annual production on a single shift basis should reach 9,000,000 yards of fabrics a year.
Extensions to plant that would be made, he said, would cost nearly £200,000 a year.—Reuter.
