The preliminary estimates submitted by the Commissioner of Public Health amounted to $2,782,250, an increase of $893,600 or 4731 per cent. as compared with the budget provision for 1939, The net reduction in the Prelimincipated sums accruing to this fund during 1940, together with certain recommended increases in charges for services and rehearsals, should enable the orchestra budget to be framed within the authorized limit of $200,- 000. The revised estimates have accordingly been framed within this limitation.
