The first meeting of the Watch Committee for the municipal year 1939/1940 was held on May, 15, 1939, when Mr. W. J. Keswick was elected Chairman of the Committee.

The Secretary of the Governing Board of Community Church recently forwarded a letter to the Municipal Council, stating that with a view to participating in work beneficial to the destitute children in Shanghai, the Community Church offered the services of a social worker, to be at the disposal of the Child Protection Section of the Council, it being the intention that such worker would be employed by the Church for at least one year, and longer if the plan proved successful. Arrangements have been made by the Church involving an outlay for salary and the necessary working expenses up to a total of $2,000 for the balance of the present calendar year.
