A drop in the consumption of Eoods in Japan to an absolute minimum so far as housing, clothing and food are concerned, and compulsory restraint on people indulging in luxuries, amusements, marriage and funeral expenses, are predicted.
The forecast arises out of new Government legislation, expected to be enforced shortly, to divert all Possible supplies to the munitions industry, the expansion of productivity and the promotion of Japan's export trade.
With the Government departments concerned having reached an agreement on the apportionment of essential materials for their own use, formal Cabinet approval of the Government's plan for the mobile ization of materials is expected shortly, One hundred and twenty separate materials will be placed under strict control under the proposed plan. These will be divided into five categories: munitions, industrial expansion, export trade promotion, Government use, and private consumption.
