She and her helpers were particu. larly interested in Chinese orphans, and destitute children, and the really useful side of this work lay in the manner in which it was approached It was sought to add to, and to enlighten the lives of these unfortunates, but at the same time they were not weaned at all from their Chinese background and life, The wisdom of maintaining these people as thorough Chinese, living fuller and more useful lives as Chinese, but not becoming that sorry product, Easterners with a Western training which has spoilt them for life in either camp, will be appreciated by many foreigners who have resided in the East for some time.
